چکیده

The present study was aimed to evaluate the possible ameliorative effect ofNigella sativa oil(NSO) andAstaxanthin(ASX) against Monosodium glutamate(MSG) (0.8g/Kg b.wt) induced dyslipidemia in rats. Forty eightpubertal male albino rats were divided into eight groups consisting of six each. Rats of groups 2, 3 and 4 were treated with MSG (0.8g/Kg b.wt), NSO (1ml/Kg b.wt) and ASX (25mg/Kg b.wt) orally for 28 days, respectively. Further, rats of groups 5, 6, 7 and 8 were coadministered with NSO + ASX, MSG + NSO, MSG + ASX and MSG + NSO + ASX orally, respectively. At the end of the experimentation, the blood samples were collected and the serum was used for biochemical analysis.Administration of MSG elevated the concentration of Total Cholesterol (TC),Triglycerides (TG),Low density lipoprotein (LDL) and Very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) with a decreased level of High density lipoprotein (HDL) in the serum of male albino rats, compared to control (group 1). However, the concentration of all lipids in the serum was restored to normalcy in rats treated withNSO + MSG (group – 6),ASX + MSG (group-7),MSG + NSO+ ASX (group – 8), No significant change was observed in the Lipid profile in the serum of rats received NSO (group – 3), ASX (group – 4) alone and combination of NSO with ASX (group – 5). The results indicate the protective effect of NSO and ASX in the serum lipid profile in the MSG induced toxicity in male pubertal albino rats.

The effect of coenzyme Q10 on oxidative stress parameters and testicular tissue damage in rats following monosodium glutamate induced excitatory intoxication

Background: Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is known as a food flavor enhancer that can adversely affect the male reproductive system. The present study was investigated the protective effect of coenzyme Q10 (Co-Q10) against MSG-induced oxidative stress and histopathological changes in rat testicular tissue. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, 40 adult male Wistar rats were randomly ...

Comparison of the effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Capparis spinosa fruit, quercetin and vitamin E on monosodium glutamate-induced toxicity in rats

Capparis spinosa L. has many biological effects such as antioxidant properties. In the present study, we compared the effects of the hydro-alcoholic extract of Capparis spinosa fruit, quercetin (Q), and vitamin E (Vit E) on monosodium glutamate (MSG)-induced toxicity. The following groups were designed: Control groups (normal saline and/or corn oil); MSG group (4.00 g kg-...

Natural products as safeguards against monosodium glutamate-induced toxicity

Monosodium glutamate is a sodium salt of a nonessential amino acid, L-glutamic acid, which is widely used in food industry. Glutamate plays an important role in principal brain functions including formation and stabilization of synapses, memory, cognition, learning, as well as cellular metabolism. However, ingestion of foodstuffs rich in monosodium glutamate can result in the outbreak of severa...
